The art of Chimayo weaving is of Spanish origin and was brought to New Mexico by the Spanish colonists who settled in the Southwest along the Rio Grande. In the early 1900s, weavers from Santa Fe created a new weaving design, consisting of two simple stripes and a center design. This vintage Chimayo coat is a picture perfect example of this weaving. A single oversized painted wood button, snap at the collar and large pockets. In astoundingly perfect condition in every way.
